Discover the Crazyflie Quad-copter by Bitcraze…

Formed with the objective of funding the development and production of the Crazyflie Quad-copter kit, Bitcraze, was established in 2011. Their aim was to create a unique Micro Quad-copter and provide an Open-Source platform for developers to adapt the unit however they liked.

The project initially began in 2009 as a pure development endeavor within the Swedish consulting company Epsilon AB.

The original Bitcraze team, consisting of three embedded systems engineers from Sweden, envisioned a small indoor flying device, taking into consideration the cold weather conditions prevalent in Scandinavia.

The Crazyflie Quad-copter was developed from a simple concept: to create a flying electronic board.

The team wanted to design a device with minimal mechanical components, resulting in the Micro-scale Crazyflie Quad-copter. The ‘copter utilized its printed circuit board (PCB) as the primary mechanical frame, with the motors affixed to the PCB.

Crazyflie was born…and, notably, it held the distinction of being the world’s smallest quad-copter at the time.

Crazyflie Quadcopter Overview

The Crazyflie 2.1 from Bitcraze Micro Quadcopters is a versatile open source flying development platform that only weighs 27g and fits in the palm of your hand.

It’s not only a good flyer, the Crazyflie 2.1 is also equipped with low-latency/long-range radio as well as Bluetooth LE. This gives you the option of downloading our app and using your mobile device as a controller or, in combination with the Crazyradio 2.0  or Crazyradio PA, using your computer to display data and fly with a game controller.

The latest version of the Crazyflie development platform comes with improved flight performance, durability and radio. Together with an extensive ecosystem of software and deck expansions it’s ideal for education, research and drone swarming.
