To determine ASTM colour, the sample is compared against standard colour discs in the Petroleum Colourimeter.
A single-scale, three-field petroleum comparator enables visual colour grading by directly comparing the sample with coloured glass filters housed in test discs that conform to the ASTM D1500 chromaticity coordinates.
The user views the sample alongside two consecutive glasses on the colour scale simultaneously, making it easier to achieve an optimal colour match.
For rapid colour grading within predetermined limits, the user can set the glass standards to the two limiting colours, allowing quick verification that the sample remains within tolerance.
A colour-corrected tungsten halogen light source, calibrated to CIE Standard Illuminant C. This provides consistent lighting conditions for colour grading regardless of ambient light. A prism combines the three fields to further assist accurate colour grading.
